Build Thread Ziggy's CJ7 build

Build Thread Ziggy's CJ7 build
So over the past few months I've been looking for parts online for my build. I've found a frame up restore right down the road from me that's in pieces right now. The guy who owns it doesn't want it anymore and doesn't want to put it together.

http://southcoast.craigslist.org/cto/3576427408.html

He's asking $3,000 for everything. I think it's a bit steep but I haven't seen what he has in person. I'm hoping to head out there this weekend. If all goes well I'll be able to get this thing back in good order in a few months.

Went to look at the Jeep today. The guy didn't want to budge at all. So I counter offered for just the tranny and chassis. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The entire thing is in great shape. Boxed frame with no rust anywhere. The tranny is not locked up and is smooth as all get out. The Transfer Case is smooth as well.

Dude, let that go for $3,000 !!!
Double the work - Putting back something already pulled down !!
I wouldn't ask more then a flat $1,000 if I had a "frame off" that I got sick of ..

^What? The middle of that is incoherent.

On a side note, he accepted my offer for the rolling chassis and tranny.

It already has steel braided brake lines installed, a brand new gas tank, brand new gas lines, a moser single axle rear end.

Glad it worked out for you. Let us have a picture!!:chug:

Ill get a picture up when I get the chassis.

Ill be picking up the chassis and tranny in a few weeks. I'll post up some pics when I get it home.

I'm hoping to get everything transferred over in a month or so. I know for a fact that I need a speedo healer. I've looked for one but have failed to find one. I also think I'm going to need some new body mounts. And the engine needs a tune up bad as well as an ignition upgrade (I won't be adding an MSI as I don't have the funds for that right now). I would REALLY like to do a EFI conversion but its just too damn expensive.

Needless to say, I'll be burrowing my way through the forum looking for a DIY tune up thread.

I'll be doing the Team Rush upgrade. That'll be right after I replace the head gasket. Thanks for that link!

Was there a difference in the chassis from 79 to 80? Morris is showing different body mounts for 76-79 and from 80-86. The chassis I'm getting is from a 79, so I just want to make sure before pulling the trigger on new body mounts. Will my 85 tub fit?

Go to the manufacturer website for those tub mounts. The info there is pretty good. I'm finding myself doing this for a lot of stuff on their site, not that I don't like the site! They just need better descriptions for their stuff is what I'm getting at.

Thanks. Some of the kits have more pieces than other ones. I think I'm going to get one with more pieces just to make sure. Prices aren't that different between them.

Do VIN's go with the chassis? The guy I'm buying the chassis from has the title and I just want to make sure I get all the correct items.

Depending on year, it is stamped on the frame. My 1980 was above the passenger rear wheel. Hard to see, but it was there after some looking!

This won't be too expensive Dear! That's what I keep saying. Over and over again.

Thanks guys!

Sorry, what I meant was "You know what it looked like BEFORE you pulled it down". A lot of people take photos and catalogue parts along the way, making the rebuild easier.

Glad to see it's working out though.

Gotcha. Thanks!

Well I won't be getting anything from that guy. I waited for two weeks to get info from him so I could wire him money and he gave me nothing. I emailed him last Friday asking what was taking so long and he told me he sold the Transmission and he wants $1,000 for the frame. Just the frame, which is in decent shape but still has rust. Needless to say, I was livid. 19 year old sh!t who thinks he knows everything.

I really wanted that tranny and frame too. Summabitch.

Dont worry , its ok to pass on a $1000 frame. ;) I paid $1500 for my 83 Limited . Drove it home to boot. Just keep an eye out and youll find what you need.

I paid $1600 for mine. It was bit too much but it was running and capable. Still pissed. Grr!
