Build Thread 1960 Resto Project

Build Thread 1960 Resto Project
Got the other two nut plates spot welded on, one is for the rear seat leg mount. Not really sure what the other one is for. Cut out the one wheelwell ... no turning back now!!!

Well I got one wheelwell completly removed and all the old spot welds removed. The other side is almost ready to come out. I will post a few new pictures tomorrow.:D

Just a quick update on the CJ. Removed the other wheelwell and tacked in the rather large patch that was required around the spare tire mount.

Looking great!
(Tool envy icon goes here) :D

Well it took awhile but the gaint patch is just about complted... Here's a few pictures. Only one more small area to cut out and make a patch for and i think all of the metal work will be done.:)

This new spot welder works great!!! Spot welded the front gas tank strap nut to the floor and it is on to stay.

:)Cool ............I like that option of the two handles..........just about lets you get in anywhere........Nice!

:D:D:D:D

Well just about as far as I can go until the wheel wells arrive. One more small patch to make and I believe all of the metal work will be done.:D

That is going to look so clean when you are done! Insert (OVERALL ENVY ICON )here. Nice work.

I could not help myself,I just got another CJ5 its a 1955 one owner with 44,000 miles, it runs and drives and even stops also has an Overdrive . Should have it home in about two weeks. Here's a few pictures.

Im definately not against multiple Cjs but whats the real differences between the 55 and the 60? And congrats on the purchase , looks pretty solid.

Thanks Petescj, the only difference I know is it's 6 volt that's really the only thing. I am not tearing this one all apart until the 60 is back together and driving. :D

I have been through this tread several times, and will definitely go through it several more. I've got some questions so far:

How did you prep the enginge block and Transmission for paint? I'm nervous about sandblasting them and getting sand in every nook and cranny. And then not getting it out. Wire brush and solvent?

I noticed you didn't paint the steering box, pitman arm and linkage. Is there a reason for that, or did you paint it in a later picture?

And finally, do you have a picture of how the exhaust, especially the muffler is supposed to sit? Mine is pretty hacked up by the PO and I'm sure it's not right. Every time I drive it, I smell like exhaust.

Thanks in advance.

Very sorry for the long delay in answering your questions. As far as prepping the engne and Transmission , I tore the completed engine apart and cleaned it in my parts washer tank, I also did the same for the Transmission and Transfer Case . I glassbeaded the Transmission and Transfer Case and then pressured washed them and after an hour or two with the heat gun and air hose they were dry enough to prime and paint. The steering parts were just not painted inthese pictures.

It has been awhile since I have had any updates. So we have a few, the bent and rusted out innner spare tire brace has been repaired and fitted back where it belongs. The wheel houses should be here in about 8 more days.:)

Just getting started on my project but your build thread has educated and inspired me! Thanks

A 69 CJ5 with a 225. It is a slow build as funds become available. Have the body off will need floor pans and a new rear floor(one reason I liked your build thread!) Will pull motor and Transmission /transfer and start on the frame next.
It had been sitting for over ten years...last registration was in 96.

The new wheel houses have arrived and they look and fit GREAT!!!!! Just about ready to start spot welding them into place..
