Build Thread 1960 Resto Project

Build Thread 1960 Resto Project
Had a really good weekend working on the Jeep. I thought I could work around the toolbox, But after checking and re-checking I was left with no choice it had to come out, it really wasn't to bad to remove. I was able to drill all of the spot welds out without any problems. I should be getting my tranmission hump this week from the sheet metal shop then I can start putting the new floor pan and braces in place.:):)

:)0822,

Looks good........I hope your sticking that tool box back in? I always loved having that space available under the seat for Junk.

This might be useful to you: I too was working on mine this weekend filling small no longer needed holes around the body and firewall........Using the Tig Welder and silicon bronze filler rod..........does a nice job not a lot of heat needed flows well and does not distort any panels. Some will get re-drilled & re-positioned when I put a new soft top back on but it just seemed I accumulated more than was needed.
:D:D:D:D

Thanks Tarry99 yes the toolbox will be going back in, it needs a little repair but nothing major. I don't have a TIG welder I have a Miller 175 MIG that does a good job. Maybe one day I will find a good deal on a TIG welder. :chug:

:)0822,

I also have a Miller 211 MIG but when filling holes in sheet metal sometimes when you squeeze the trigger you get a ball or more metal than you need which requires a little more work knocking it back down.
I know the body guys use the MIG to fill holes but they also like to grind on things and mix Bondo! (LOL) Just my opinion!

Your Job is looking good.

Had a great weekend working on the CJ. I have the rear floor support all welded in, the Transmission hump section was finished by the metal shop, that's welded in also the driver's side floor pan is in. I have to finish up some welding on it. I will post a few pictures tonight.:):):)

So jealous of this build.
Mate I think it's already very obvious this is going to be something special !!

Very nicely done restoration, my compliments!

One more area fixed, Should be installing the patch over the gaint hole tonight and reinstalling the tire support.

:)0822 ................looks good...............I am amazed not only on your Jeep but how many others have rust problems.........In California we just don't see that much.............funny thing is that when I bought that 65 CJ new in 1967 in Oakland,California that dealer had undercoated the frame and body underneath and firewall.............Probably cost $20.00 bucks back then................Go Figure!
:D:D:D:D

It would be great to get a Jeep with no rust but around here that is almost never the case. This one is not as bad as alot I looked at as far as rust goes. :)

:)0822...........No you are right, your Jeep compared to many I see on line looks really good..........
The point I was making is that a dealer out here being pro-active and undercoating 47 years ago in a place like California that really doesn't need it versus areas that it almost should have been an automatic is just interesting.

Very good point. It took me over a year to find this Jeep as we all know it hard to find a rust free Jeep in this neck of the woods. :D:D

It has been a few weeks since any updates, I have been waiting for the other floor pan and hat chanels to arrived. They have been shipped out today so hopefully we can get back on this project this weekend. I will keep the pictures coming. :)

The second floor pan and support braces have arrived, so I guess we will have something to do this weekend.

Floor update, I got the passengers side floor almost ready to start the welding process just I little more trimming. I will post a few pictures in the morning. Once the floors are done and the hat channels are in then we can start on cutting out and installing the new rear floor followed by the taillight panels.:banana::banana:

That cj is awesome ! I will be checking in. Good job so far, :notworthy:

By the way , you are saving a piece of history. It will be worth it
