1975 CJ6 with AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I6, T-18 , Dana 20 , Dana 30 , and Dana 44 . This is not what I wanted at first, but after studying it I thought it would be fun. I have lots of time, and not a lot of money, so going will be slow at first. That should be OK seeing how long it's going to take me to repair this tub! The real damage so far is the rear frame is gone! The Dana 44 rear end is missing the breather....., need to know if I can tap something in to replace it? And of course RUST.

I know, if it aint' got rust, it aint' a JEEP!

  • As of now what I want to do is repair all the rust to the best of my ability.
  • Replace seals that are bad.
  • Replace all the bushings
  • Full brake job.
  • Clean and paint every thing.

8/9 April 2012

Well the exhaust flange had a 10/32 bolt holding the front. It had been broke off and drilled out to put the smaller bolt in......

P4090004.webp

Drilled it out, re-tapped the threads and put it back together. The head on the other hand...the two top center bolts would not come out! I cut them off and worked on the manifold. Later trying to remove the two bolts........%$&?@#.....but I won!

It all works out in the end, DAN

Sometime it doesnt all go as planned and things slow you down. But that CJ6 is way to cool to leave go by the wayside. Keep pluggin away. I know Im watching. :chug:

I think your work in inspirational. You have far more crud to deal with than my 6 has, but it is such a cool ride. Cant wait to see it finished.
Are you using an arc welder or wire-feed for all that FAB welding?:chug

Worked again on getting every thing off and out so I can pull the tub. It took longer to clean out the shed than it did to get it ready! Welded the differential lever, man it feels tight now. Cut the under seat tool box out, with the help of a spot weld drill bit. Don't know how you would do it without one....

Re: 10 April 2012

I like how that tool box came out... I might have to consider doing that. Thanks for the pics, looks like a decent tub you've got to work with.

Not that it needs to be said but - CJ6 's are cool!

19 April 2012

Finished the welding on the passenger side. Good thing, I ran out of wire, third pound!

P4190003.webp

P4190002.webp

I am the slowest body man in the world! Getting a little better at it, but not much.....

This morning I got to thinking about the ignition. When I looked on line, every thing I saw had two wires from the distributor. I double checked mine and sure enough, one wire.....the PO has dropped a pointed distributor in there. Best I can make out, around 72 or earlier.....

23 April 2012

Worked on wire wheeling a bunch of little stuff over the week end. I just spray bombed them black.........today I wire wheeled and primed the fire wall.....
guess I got to get it back up on it's side again.
