Just emailed Novak about not seeing a rebuild kit for the 1979 T18a. This is the response I got. Ouch, I was hoping to have the parts there when I disassembled......

"Yeah there is not one for the 1979. They did all sorts of strange things that year, so there is no set of parts for it. The only way to get the rebuild parts you need is to send us your synchros and bearings, and we can match them up and get you the rest of the parts that did not change. You can thank Jeep for that one. Sorry but that is the only way to make sure you get the right parts. Let me know. Thanks."

Oh wow really? I have a 79 T-18 myself, Glad I didn't tear it down yet for a rebuild! lol

Yep, I've heard that one before, back when I rebuilt the Transmission in a friends rig. But have no fear, I sent the requested parts to them with signature upon receipt, they put together a kit based on the old parts and sent it all back with directions included. It took a few more days than just ordering one of the stock kits, but in the end it all worked out fine.:)

:)All true............the Borg Warner Jeep T-98 's which later became a Jeep version T-18 have seen numerous changes over the years.
Parts are a grab bag if you can find them..............There were a few known bearing changes but synchros and gear sets are what really can drive you up the wall...........most of those gears & shafts are no longer available.

On the other hand the Ford version Borg Warner T-18 took a completely different path as these transmissions to this day still support the oil field and drilling industry and can be found in drilling rigs and pumps everywhere. Notwithstanding there use in Ford Bronco's and Trucks for several decades. Almost all parts remain standardized and available to this day.........
