1983 CJ 7 wont start!

Well, I bought this jeep about a month ago and it wouldn't start this morning. It has the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l straight 6. I have replaced the fuel pump(mechanical) and don't think thats my issue of the day. It was a pretty heavy due this morning here in Texas, could that be an issue with the distributor and ignition parts? Any tips on what to look for would be great.

Find out if it is lacking fuel or spark, these are the usual suspects to begin with.

Step 1 is definitely to find out if you have fuel in the carb and spark at the plugs dew *should not* be the problem

So it cranks and cranks and cranks but won't start?
As the others have said, we need to find out if it's missing spark or fuel.
pour just a little gas down the carb to see it that's the issue.
You can use a spark tester to see if you are getting a spark.

heavy dew?
I had a mustang way back that didnt start in rain or heavy dew
turned out to be a crack in the dizzy cap
so i agree with busa and testing the spark
and check the cap an wires as well
