YouTube. This is a link to a YouTube video I just made tonight. I am wanting to know what you guys think, reason being it sounds odd as heck to me that one side sounds healthy and the other weak. When I bought the jeep it had a bad knock or more of a clang to it after worm up. I ended up buying a timing set ,new timing cover along with oil pump, water pump and other tune up parts. So I have been driving it around with no problems but can't get over the exhaust sound. The jeep starts up fine, timed, no smoke, pulls hard, easy to get up to speed easy 55 mph. Any thoughts of yours would be great. I pulled my valve cover tonight to check things out " pulled plugs turned by hand" all looks well.

:)You should do a compression check then also a leak down on all cylinders. If there fine your just hearing the odd fire sequence inherent with an Odd Fire motor.
Option: Change it to a later Buick Even Fire 231.....all of the external accessories will fit.

:D:D:D:D

I hear the the odd-fire is a great engine for the older CJs, due to its increased torque. I have seen them on the trail and in the sand where they work just great. That sound of course, sets them apart.

YouTube turns out I had an even fire cap on my odd fire motor. Runs great now. Thanks

is there a visible difference between the odd & even fire caps? I've got to run 92 octane and 0 degrees of timing to avoid knock, so now I'm wondering if this may be why.... ?

Cool, thanks - I took a look and you can certainly see the difference with the odd fire cap and where the two 'deleted' terminals would have been.

Since I've got 6 evenly spaced terminals on my current cap it seems to me that this is the problem.... :) happy, happy joy, joy!

My cap doesn't look anything like that, although it is older, so I wouldn't rush out and spend money until you are sure. It has 6 evenly spaced pins. The cap does sit too lose though and I don't like that.

Recently set mine to 5* BTDC and it runs like a champ on 87 octane.
