Having a heck of a time getting the correct gas cap. The PO removed the evap system. I have had the same gas cap for a year-came with the jeep. No rubber seal, spring loaded with what appeard to be a grass ring the pressed against the inner steel portion of the stock filer neck-worked perfect. Unfortunately, I lost it!!! Every gas cap I have tried -vented and non vented will not work. Jeep goes about 300 ft and stops dead-air locked. Remove or loosen the cap-runs fine. I ended up putting bends in the brass ring on the cap (preventing a seal) and it seems to work fine. However, I would rather have a new cap with a built in vent large enough to let the thing keep running. I have checked all of my local contacts. Any ideas? (Valve for the plugged fuel line that ued to go to the evap system?)

Remove the rubber gasket on the cap and put a couple of bends in the 'skirt' that sits on the filler.

That is what I did-and it does work. However, would like to find a good quality gas cap-like the one I had

I do recall on the '74 that the gas filler is mounted quite low. I used to run around with a guy who had a '74 with one of those breathable caps and when we would go wheeling I would have to keep my distance as the gas would flow out going up hills. I would suggest installing a charcoal canister and hooking it up with a sealed cap.

Tried Napa and Collins brothers. Collins Bros stated they only go back to 76 CJs (?). May end up going the cannister route.

thanks for the replies!
