I got a 77 CJ5 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l straight 6 and I need some help identifying the carb. I have no clue what model carb it could possibly be. Im also looking for a good manual that could help me in rebuilding the carb. Finally I would like to convert it to a manual choke from the automatic vacuum (at least that what it appears to be) operated choke.

Welcome to the forum. Best guess is that the carb is a Carter, not exactly sure which one. Call your auto parts supplier and give them the year and engine size, they should be able to provide you with a kit, providing its the original type carb. Auto parts stores also sells a manual choke conversion kit...simple to install. :chug:

It looks to be a Carter YFA, good little carbs as long as they're dialed in. With a restrictive air cleaner they can build up varnish in the throat of the air horn that the choke butterfly gets hung up on. Some carb cleaner and Scothch Brite pads will take care of that though.
