IF I were to replace my carb with a Howell EFI kit, what additional smog equipment would I need for CA.

All I really know is this jeep doesnt have any smog equipment on it and I want to get it passed. Will an EFI kit make it easier to pass smog in CA?

For starters, charcoal cannister with the rest of the evaporative control system, smog pump with the air injection system, egr valve and system, and of course the cat. Another option would be to "Green Sticker" it or find someone to pass it through.

I would call Howell, there tech service is pretty good. You won't need the air pump or air injection tubes in the exhaust. Part of the Howell system uses an oxygen sensor, the air stuff with defeat the O2 sensor.

TorXHead, when you reffer to "Green Sticker", what does that mean?

thanks in advance,

A "Green Sticker" Is purchased from the DMV for around $52. This will not allow you to drive on the street, but use it as an off road vehicle only. Like in tow it to and from the trailhead, just like owning an atv. I don't think insurance is required either.

Thanks, I broke down and ordered a service manual.

Still considering EFI.

thanks again

I fuel injected my AMC 304 with a TBI about a year ago. I love it. I also put a MDS 8414 large distributor cap on. That was a big improvement too.
