Build Thread '81 CJ-7 Laredo build

Build Thread '81 CJ-7 Laredo build
Took a little time off but restarted today. Got all the belts and pulleys lined up correctly and tight. My poly engine mounts are in and tight as well as the exhaust being hooked back up. No pics but things are going on . I ordered the carb and it'll be here Wednesday. If that's not the day she rumbles to life it'll be that weekend. Can't wait!:chug:

Well it's Wednesday and the carb is here. Unfortunately I worked 12 hr shifts the last two days so I didn't get as much done as I wanted. Spent some time today running a lot of new hoses and setting up the distributor. I decided to use my old one first for two reasons.

I just want to put everything back the way it was so I don't have extra things to think about if it doesn't fire right away. Secondly I want to see how much difference the carb alone makes. Then I'll add the DUI dizzy and be able to evaluate that on its own as well. Look Lumpy a nice new correct Napa Gold oil filter just for you. :D

Went to put the new carb on and grabbed the small black riser plate only to have one of the corners crumble in my hand. Hopefully I can order a new one and have it by the weekend.

Again a big thanks to all the guys who egged me into painting things a bit more. That master cylinder is next. It's driving me nuts.

Looking good Pete

Put another good day in. A little wiring , fill the fluids install the skid plate and I'm this it's ready. I should finish it up tomorrow.

Thanks, it's taken longer than I thought but it's been fun to work on again. I know tomorrow's Mothers Day but I'm coming home with something I've wanted for quite awhile. Stay tuned. :D

Peter-bet you don't get much sleep tonight. :poke:

Ive been working with just regular hand tools the majority of my life. Finally got a shot at making it a little easier for myself. Went out for Mothers Day brunch then hit a sale at Harbor Freight. Hopefully the stuff I got holds out.

1. 21 gallon 2.5 hp air compressor
2. 3/8 in air ratchet
3. 1/2 in impact
4. 37 piece impact socket set
5. Battery charger
6. Air compressor starter kit
7 50 ft air hose

This cost me the money I had saved for my Poison Spyder Rocker Knockers so they have to wait till August after vacation. Still getting my aluminum corners though. Once I decided to go frame off with the '82 I knew I needed these tools and more. This should give me a decent start though.

Great  I have found that Marvel Mystery Oil(MMO)to be a great lube for air-tools and have used it in mine for decades. Only need 6-7 drops of oil in the tools inlet.
Drain the tank OFTEN ;)
Your only regret will be, that you didn't get'em sooner.:poke:

You got it. They tasted their first few drops of MMO yesterday!

happy uncompressing!

Wooly

Thanks. Tonight's the night I try and fire it up. Can't wait! :chug:

You want to adjust the pressure regulator on the compressor. So the highest drawing tool(impact wrench), while running, doesn't exceed 85-90 psi. Any higher, and it will beat the tool to death.
BTW-You have only just started buy'n air-tools...........
Best of luck with start up! :chug:

We have a lot of Central Pneumatic tools as well as Centech, and Pittsburg. Have yet to have a problem with any of them. Chicago Electric on the other hand, also from HF, nothing but problems. Stay away from those as you fill your wish list.

Start up was successful! :chug: Two loose hoses and 180 degrees out of time.

As for air tools I was still shopping in the parking lot lol. :D

Out :censored: Standing!

When's the first road test?

Awesome Pete! I have a set of air tools from HF and a set of Impact sockets too. No problems in over 5 years. My compressor though I went with a big mother, and sometimes it's still not enough when sanding or grinding. Impact is always good. I love my 3" cut off wheel tool, use it a lot. I also use an angle die grinder for a scotch pad sander. Really nice for cleanup work. Have fun with you new tools! :D

Just a thought, does momma get presents on father's day? :poke:
