Sorry to hear about the 3 yr old - to young to understand what's going on but old enough to let you know they don't like it -

I had a blast working the backing plates into place for the tailgate hinges..... the easy part is gettin em thru the hole.

Are they kinda like the backing plates for the hinges on the YJ metal 1/2 doors ?

I just made mine out of 10ga sheet. The problem is gettin em lines up with the bolts. Extra set of hands is a great help...

I made mine from some 1 inch angle that was in the scrap bin, I think if I get ambitious I want to make the factory style cage for it that’s in one of the pics so that it can float around and be adjusted as need be

Hey Belizean do you or shum8 mind measuring the length of the tailgate support straps? Years ago I bought the kentrol stainless tailgate kit not realizing its for fiberglass tubs and I think my cables are to short. Thx

Mine are already attached, but measuring three times, I got 19, 18.5, and 18.5......

Mine were hole to hole..... that looks right on the money [emoji106]

Yep that’s what mine are , I fabbed my tailgate brackets using pictures off the internet of originals and it looks like the angles of the pics are deceiving so I will flatten my brackets back out and move the holes closer to the back of the tub so my tailgate will lay down flat in the open position

Could you weld another “layer” over the surface with the hole, attach the cable to the tailgate, then locate the new hole using the upper end of the cable?

Yep several different ways to skin this cat, I’m going to try and cover up my boo boo by re drilling the hole in the correct spot and the shorten the bracket to see if that removes the hole if not it’s going to get welded up lol

Are ya done yet??? It's been a couple hours.... it's not like you have anything else to occupy your time....... LOL

Which repair plan did you pick for the tailgate cable brackets??

Looks good. When I put my hinges on upside down, attached the cables, and lowered the tailgate the first time, it was WAY too low........ took me a few minutes to figure out what was wrong. Nicely done!!

LOL - That looks like a chunk of rarely found Midwestern Postwood........
