84 cj7 won't go into gear

Unfortuinately he might need to go to a real parts place, old time mechanic, mom and pop type parts place. Unfortunately those are becomming more and more difficult to find. NOVAK or Advanced Adaptors might be able to help in this situation ..... ????? I almost thing that I originally read about this on one of their websites. It was a long long time ago so the remembering is a bit beer induced fuzzy now.

It idles around 500-600 RPMs. It's a little rough though. Seems like it wants more gas.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I figured out the problem and got it fixed. There is a bracket that holds the clutch linkage that was missing a bolt. This allowed for too much play in the clutch and it wasn't fully disengaging. Replaced the bolt and not shifts as smooth as butter. Much cheaper fix than a new clutch or rebuild Transmission .

That is great news, I think even the most clutch replacement oriented poster would rather have a simple fix like this rather than the expense of a replacement. But, you have to admit that it was a clutch problem.
