AMC 20 Welding tubes

What seems to be working for welding the tubes to the diff housing? Four 1" welds. I have welded lots of mild but very little nodular cast. Pre heat to what temperature use a nickel rod like a 309 and post heat? Hate to mess up the only rear end I have. How do you check for sagg in the tubes. Would sagg really matter. Over time the rear end gets lots of stresses. Or do I just leave well enough alone? I do not plan on hard core driving just want to fix up while I change out the gears.

Yep ......skip welding the housing is correct............Pre-heat and post heat. Pretty hard to get it over a few hundred degrees. I would heat the weld zone up with a nice rose bud. Take your time and heat it evenly.
The post heat .......IE;letting it cool down slowly is the most important.........cover it with a welding blanket.........and Hi nickel rod is best for arc and 309 stainless works well using a TIG method.

Might be hard to do correctly if it is still in the vehicle.

Lots of those in service that have not been welded , just depends on your level of driving.

I had mine welded with (3) 1 1/4"-1 1/2" welds at third points around the perimeter.
