AMC 360 ticking/knock from the distributor
Formula 40PC
Jeeper
I just installed an DUI HEI distributor in my 76 CJ7 with an AMC 360, I transfered the old dizzy gear to the new HEI. Engine starts and runs great, only problem is there is a ticking/knocking coming from the distributor. I have used a scope to listen and definitely louder as you go down the shaft and distributor bolt, also loud on the water pump and surrounding area of the distributor mounting hole.
I just pulled the dizzy to check things out and the gear looks good, no different then when it was reinstalled over a month ago. I have about 1/16" up and down play in the dizzy shaft. Should that be less? Should I shim this to reduce the movement. The dizzy gear prior to and now looks like the cam gear is running a little high on it, you can tell the wear pattern is off center by a 1/16"+. Should I shim the dizzy up a tad?
My oil pressure is 60-70psi.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
