Way back when I was a broke college student doing an V8 swap in my CJ (no wonder I was broke), I went the cheap and easy route with the exhaust....Fenderwell headers (Summit brand, the cheapest I could find) and side pipes (4wd Hardware kit, glasspacks). It does sound great, but it gets old on an all day trail ride or couple hour road trip, so I'd like to quiet it down some.

I've got a set of OEM CJ AMC 304 manifolds I'd like to use, and want to run it out the back (I'm thinking the back corners at a 45* will work well). Duals would be prefered, but I'm not complete opposed to a 2 into 1. Biggest issue I can see is there just isn't much room between the frame. The Tcase is pretty close to the frame on the passenger side and my anti wrap bar is on the driver side. I should be able to get past the tcase, but then there's not much room for 2 mufflers with the anti wrap bar. But I also don't see a good way to get a Y pip without it hanging low. And I think the factory Y pipe brings the tailpipe down the driver side. I may need my move my anti wrap bar to the passenger side to make things easier.

So what are yall V8 guys running? Also, any suggestions on a muffler that will still sound like a V8, but be quieter than my glasspacks @ 2500+ rpm on the highway?

TIA

I am in the same situation at the moment, I have a 360 with stock manifolds with dual exhaust but I am trying to figure out how to get my anti wrap bar in place I am contemplating doing a single exhaust down the driver side, my pipes are 45ed between the frame and springs I like it, I told them to give me the quietest muffler they had at the muffler shop when I had the dual exhaust done years ago, I am still a huge fan of flow master no parts to break in them. They usually run the y pipe either behind the pan or behind the bell housing

That sounds like what I was hoping to do. How does your passenger side run? Just inside the frame between the frame and tcase? And how big are your mufflers? I'm thinking I would have to run a run round style mufflers to be able to fit duals (still not sure if I can even do that).

I have 2.5 dual exhaust center inlet/outlet mufflers I will have to measure to know for sure but they are like 8x12 passenger pipe squeezes between t case and frame rail close but fits

Great pics, thanks!

Looks like the passenger side won't be too much of an issue, but the anti wrap bar might be. I'm running a 9" and put the anti wrap as close to center as i could on the driver side. I'll have to measure to see how much room I have between it and the frame. I'll try to get some pictures this evening.

Hang on taking kiddos swimming I will snap a pic when we get back

Looks like it might be fun trying to fit a pipe between your bar/shock/spring

Especially with the suspension cycling. The more I look at it the more I think I'm going to end up with a single exhaust and moving the anti wrap bar. I think I'm just going to have to pick up a few pieces of pipe and see what I can do
