So if we're in Colorado and on top of a mountain pass who is going to help me make a coors commercial?

Coincidentally, the twin falls Dave showed was in some old Coor's commercials...
 
I think I'm good, most of the rigs I've owned never came with heaters, tops, or doors.

I'll have to take my CJ for an evening cruise tonight, should be a barmy 14*. :D
 
My Jeep has a bikini top, and that's it. I'll never have it on in the mountains as it obstructs the views (unless it rains). All the tour companies go topless but have tops they can snap on if it rains. It is what it is...
 
Cold is cold wherever your from, just wear plenty of layers as Dave mentioned.

Dave, I can't get enough of those trail pics, very inspiring. I will enjoy visiting the abandoned mines, ghost towns, and such, along with the beautiful scenery. I'm looking forward to this trip!
 
Yep. Layers are key there. CAN NOT WAIT!!! This is going to be fantastic.

Tip for making reservations at the Rivers Edge Motel.

It's cheaper if you make your reservations on the internet: Ouray Hotel, Ouray Colorado Hotels | River?s Edge Motel
Click on the link for reservations. Then you will see 2 prices for each room. By default the Regular Room Rate is selected. The online rate is cheaper for the same room. Here's an example for the Deluxe King room.

Here's what to expect on the first day of the Jeep-CJ Trail Ride. We will head a few miles out of town and pull off the highway to lock our hubs and shift into 4WD Low.
I timed myself doing this run. I left the pavement at 10:00 am and got back on pavement at 3:40 pm. There won't be any need to shift out of 4WD low.

This is Lower Engineer Pass trail. It will be slow going only because the trail is very rough and rocky.

Pete, if your real lucky, you will get as old as me. :D

The best part of this trail is the first 2 miles. Some of you will look at the rocks and think "no way I can climb over that". And then when you get to the bottom of cork screw you will be feeling like a pretty major bada$$.:D
 
These trails change all the time. A bad rain can wash out a trail and make it much harder than usual.
Last year I think Black Bear Pass was harder than usual and Poughkeepsie Gulch was easier than usual.
 
This might seem like a stupid question, but that has never stopped me from asking...:rolleyes: And I might be able to search online and find some answers - but this is much easier on my eyesight -sorry...

Are there "rules" regarding things like exhaust placement (side pipes?) or spark arresters, or "other environmental requirements" we need to know about to run the trails where we're going? We are looking at putting headers on our 231V6 with cherry bomb pacs which would exit out the sides somewhere (not sure exactly....:eek:), as this has really become a custom CJ5 . We also plan to use a rear mount gas tank (instead of under the driver's seat). We may only have a "Custom dip stick gas gauge" as getting ALL the gauges to work might not happen until later...geez I need to update my build thread...:eek:

Here in Wisconsin there are so many rules for off road public trails, (mostly for ATV's starting fires), but is there anything we should know ahead of time? Our CJ5 will be properly licensed in WI and insured - but they don't require a "state inspection" to get current registration like in other states like PA and WV.

Sorry I have not looked at all the pics from previous rides to pick up on this, so I am just asking. Dumb questions - maybe/or not - we still need to know. I do believe different states have different rules.

From what I have seen, headers do make for some warmer underhood temperatures, and for most Jeeps that's where the carb air cleaner is, and warm air will make for a richer running engine. I would suggest running the exaust pipes all the way to the rear since air is easier to breathe than hot exaust when you are traveling slow. This is just my opinion, though.
