Anyone here paint there own Jeep?

I have $1,000 set aside for paint and was wondering if maybe I should do it myself. I have some rear corner damage the PO bonded. All in all the body is in good shape, I have a new tailgate, and fenders. The hood, grill and window shield are in great shape. I'm wondering how much in cost for White paint, some bondo, primer and equipment? If I take it to a shop I don't think I will get away with under 1k painted. I would have to trailer the tub and parts to them. Thank you and any feed-back is great.

I painted both my CJ's myself. I have 1.5 gallons of the PPG single stage epoxy in factory white color for 78 left if you are interested. My 5 pictured took a little over 1 gal to paint everything inside and out-top and bottom, roll bar, wheels, etc.

i did mine myself. you can do it 5 times for 1000 bucks. try it first, if it looks like poop, research what you did wrong, and fix it. trial and error kinda sucks, but you will have the satisfaction of saying i painted that. and if you still cant get it right, take it to macco and pay them 300 to spray it

How much in tools am I looking at, Paint Gun and compressor? Not trying to break the bank either.

Are you refering to the combo kit?
I know the cheap guns are often used for primer, they may get you by but good guns can be $500+ and there must be some reason.
The compressor is a critical peice of the puzzle, I have a 4hp 11gal ?cfm compressor that will not allow me to spray continuous and I have been looking for a real shop comp used for a few years now in the 10+cfm range.

check out the local Jr collage community service classes. Not saying that they exist in your town but you could find that you could have a few classes, and use an epic size compressor and paint booth for pocket change. The Harbor freight guns work quite well but remember, HVLP guns require massive amounts of air volume. Check with your local paint supplier for information and paint options. good luck!

Harbour Freight guns work very well. I bought 3 of them for $12.99 when I painted my son's dodge. I have even seen an episode of "overhaulin" when Chip Foose was using one. Keep to single stage as 2 stage = double the trouble IMHO Color choice should bright color, white, yellow, etc are more forgiving than black.

Well you always have the super cheap option of rustoleum oil based enamel. You can roll it on, then no worries with the cost of a compressor or spray guns.
Its not mine but found this on google and thought it may help.

Painted mine with about 6 rattle cans. Less than $100 and very easy to fix after some wheeling. So it depends on what your goals are???

I've got one of these

1.8 Horsepower, 26 Gallon, 150 PSI Oilless Air Compressor

I've painted three or four vehicles with it. It does ok with impact tools too. It won't run a grinder or DA though

spraying paint is not that hard. It's body work and prep that makes the paint job. Thank You

i recently painted mine with a base coat clear coat, without a paint booth this system works well. the clear coat is sanded and buffed so if you have a run or the clear has orange peel (rough finish) it is easily fixed and it will end up with a professional look. good luck.

rescue, thats how I do all mine. There are always boo boos in the paint. You can easily let the paint dry fix the spot then when your all done, clear coat it.

The truck in my pictures has been "fixed" so many times I can't remember. But it's going to be shown, so I want it right. I have two gallons of clear waiting to spray on it.
