Build Thread Aussie CJ7 - 78

Build Thread Aussie CJ7 - 78
looking good Jon. that is the cleanest, sharpest engine I have seen...think you will ever get it started? :D Nice close up of the header bolted in...those turned out nice...I know it was a lot of work. So the question is...why would you go with extended bump stops? Won't that lower your range of travel?

notice the bottom shock mount and the way it points slightly downward.

this is what happens when the shock bottoms out, believe me when I say that you don't have near the upward travel you may think you have. without changing shock location and/or buying some extreme and expensive shocks, an inch, maybe an inch and a half is the best you can hope for.

In the immortal words of William Jefferson Clinton, "Bump stops are a good thing" :D

Agreed :notworthy: and additionally -

Suspensions will always be set up for factory configuration ... factory tires.
So stuff a set of 33/10.5/15 under her and you'll probably need some longer bump stops to compensate for the taller tire.
The 3" lift should help the bigger tires, but here's hoping that with the fancy poly flex bushes, more travel will need to be looked at again so the extended bump stops come into play again.

How good do the Daystar ones look !!!

Very Frustrated With Parts Purchasing.
When I purchased my discs and calipers kit I had it shipped from Morris4x4 to a shipping service in Florida, and then paid MYUS to ship it to Aus.
Looks like Morris4x4 are standing firm on they'll only ship again to Florida, knowing I have to pay twice now for the shipping to Australia when the order was correct - Parts description wrong, and they've stated this in emails.
So last two orders from Morris4x4 have had wrong parts description, and wrong parts delivered to my door.
Disappointed when they claim 100% satisfaction guarantee, but I don't want to bag them or have a vent.
Just a word of caution to people purchasing from them internationally.
It's just I now have to try to sell the wrong discs they sent me, on ebay to recoup the money I've had to spend on shipping twice to Australia.
I just think for the price of shipping them to Aus I would have continued to purchase another $ 2-3,000 to finish the build over the next 6 months in wheels, seats, seat mounts, belts, ect.
I suggested they could honour the second shipping cost to Australia against parts I was ready to order straight away... Just doesn't make sense to me?

BIG SADY FACE and pretty frustrated ... :(

Anyway ... THE BUILD MUST GO ON !!!

Alpha and Pete !!!
I'm sick of you guys taking the mickey out of my Australian customs !!!
Clearly that is a mock photo, NOONE would eat them roasted like that !!
We eat creamed possum out of the can down here.

:D :D :D

Sorry to hear you are having this problem. Send a PM to the Morris guy on this thread. Jeep-CJ Forums - View Profile: Morris4x4Center and ask him to look into the problem. Shame there isn't an easier way to get parts to you. Paying for shipping twice, especially when the order was a mistake on their part doesn't sit well with me.

I noted that you were angered by the price of stuff shipping from the U.S.
No complaints about chucking out some $$$ for your trendy North Carolina Possum though huh?

You must have a delicate pallet. Heres some Pennsylvania Racoon. We just shovel it up and slap it on a plate. Its all good. :D

In Texas we have armadillos, think of them kind of like possum on the half shell.

Best Hijack ever. OH man I am crying :notworthy:

I kinda feel like I should say something about wild hogs.....?

Really though, I would not pay for shipping twice if it was not my error. At the very least not pay shipping twice to the same company for their mistake.

I hope I'm not the only customer they have in this town...

This won't be too expensive Dear! That's what I keep saying. Over and over again.

have to face facts boys, we are at the mercy of some pretty shoddy aftermarket manufacturers just about every time we need something not available in a grave yard. Omix, Crown and Kentrol and a few more are all "pretty close" at very best. But in some cases they are the only game in town. I can't be too hard on the vendors for supplying the best available and trying to make a buck in a small nich market, like ours.

the one thing that did annoy me about the vendor in question was being asked for a review on a part but not having any place to read it. we can tell them the part was not as advertised or junk but that information never was made available to the rest of the world. and just because Crown catalog says it fits does not make it true.:D

Jag, as much as I love my Jeep, I don't know if I would have the patience to build one in Oz, I probably would have gone with something like a Toyota. just because, I imagine, the parts are more available. We are all playing this game, it's too bad you have to anti up a bit more than the rest.

You sir, are a true "Jeep guy":notworthy:

if there was a smiley with a hat, He would take it off for you.:D

Yeah all really good points.

I guess I would have just liked to see Danny dig up a picture of "wild hog" road kill ?? Surely with all them prisons around you could have found something local to contribute Danny !!
I was going to say something like, "Nothing ever stops Alpha from throwing in a picture or two"... But I'm not sure he should be encouraged ?? :D
:chug:

It's ok I just checked the cupboards ... Armadillo should be fine with a cup or two of this stuff :D

I've just realised of all the subjects to choose .... Roadkill ???
Alpha please redirect this fast !!

glad I ate before going on line.:barf:

I have wanted a good reason to use this for a long time.:D

Let me change this to women in lingerie,

That will fix it!

So when I saw Danny's input I thought - Hey this thread is looking up !!'
And then Alpha posted :D
Oh well ... I might have to post some build photos this avo to get this thread back on track ...

I've got a mate who's going to paint the old girl for me having a look at her this morning :D :D :D

Looks like Chevy Orange Red ... Which is what the fan and diff covers are painted in.

Attached a few of the pics I'll be showing him today ... ID plate reads "Firecracker Red" so I didn't want to move to far away, but always wanted an orange CJ. So Chevy Orange Red should be close enough to ticking all the boxes.
We're talking a solid, rather then a clear coat. I would love to see a clear coat with hot rod style depth in the paint, I just can't justify it :(

I should probably let everyone know I'll be looking at a set of MT Sidebiters to tie in with that colour :D :D :D and of course some 33x10.5 BFG's just to give her a little bit of an original thinner tire look :D :D :D
