Axle seal recommendation

Managed to blow my passenger side rear axle seal this evening. Been a while since I've had to source parts for an AMC20 rear axle. The housing already has a one piece axle in it (in there when I purchased it, unknown manufacturer). The PO even went to the trouble to install grease zerk fittings in the axle tube ends. Anyway, I got rear axle oil all over the tire. I have used Superior in the past and was surprised to find this evening that they're out of business. Y'all give me some suggestions for sources and brands for good quality bearing kits. What I've found on the net so far is anywhere from $30 (unknown brand on ebay) per set to about $80 for Yukon.

We'll if you have gear oil on the brakes, then you need the inner axle seal. Pull the axle out, pop the seal out of the tube. There should be a number on the seal that a good auto parts store or bearing supply store can match up. Would also be a good idea to replace the outer seal too. This would require pressing the bearing off the shaft. Go same route on seal, or check with moser on a bearing and seal assembly. Replace wedding band also. ( bearing retainer )

Here is a complete kit from Moser through 4 Wheel Drive Hardware. I use this kit. You pretty much will have to replace everything. Oil leaking out means both seals are bad, inner and outer. I have also pieced it together from NAPA. Each seal is separate and the bearing set is separate.

Yep. Always look forward to R&R on Ford and Jeep semi-floaters. I ain't ever had any luck pressing off bearings. I usually end up cutting the collar and inner bearing race with a cut off wheel on my 4" angle grinder. If I go into one, it's going back in with new bearings anyway, so I ain't worried about saving the ones that's in there now.

That's exactly what I'm gonna need and the price ain't bad either. Brake shoes, a brake hardware set and a bucket of oil and I'll be good to go. Got to get her going. It's the daily driver for the wife!!

Absolutely! No way I'd break it all down and not put new bearings back in. I don't care how good the old ones look. My luck just don't work that way!

That's a good price! I purchased the National Seals and Bearing.....was $48 and didn't come with the lock or the spacer.

That's what I thought. I jumped on 'em as soon as I opened up the link.

Gave it a good going over this morning. What caused all this was me going through the wet hay field the other day. Kinda hilly where I live and I ended up spinning a good bit rather than going ahead and locking the hubs. After looking at it I see I managed to wrap hay around the drive shaft pretty good and that trashed the pinion seal and also ripped the axle vent hose. I went ahead and ordered the bearings, seals, brake shoes, brake hardware kits, pinion seal & nut and a differential cover gasket. Just got done replacing the hose. Everything ought to be here by Friday. Reckon I know what I'll be doing this weekend, huh?

And to think, all this could have been prevented (for now anyway) by just getting my lazy tail out and locking the hubs.

HD, don't be so dang lazy! I will order them as well, I still need to replace the seals and bearing on the drivers side rear. I have put it off due to having the shims but I will get off of my lazy butt and do them soon!
