Thinking about getting rid of the OEM LSD and going with a Lunch Box Locker. Which one gives you the best bang for your buck? I have an AMC20 axle.

Lock-Right--
I have installed several for friends, and they seem to work very well.
WELCOME TO POWERTRAX - Powertrax

You may have to buy a 'open' type carrier as they only replace the spider gears.

I agree with Lumpy...did both of my own in a Dana 35 and Dana 30 ...piece of cake and very stout.

I suggest choosing a good 75w-90w such as Amsoil or Mobil 1 to run it with.
I prefer Amsoil as the better choice from running both for several years.

I installed a LOKKA about a year ago. Was $230 shipped, if I remember correctly. Same as the Aussie. :chug:

X3 on the Lockright.
I installed them front and back SEVERAL years ago and they haven't let me down yet.
Easy to install, work as advertised, and easy on the wallet.

Thanks for all the input. I guess I'll go with lock right.

PLEASE-Update as you can on install and afterwards.

I'll definitely post pics and whatnot. It may be a little while, got a lot on my plate right now.

starting with a good carrier makes it easier and insures a greater degree of sucsess, if a side gear shim has scored the case some times you have to shim a few extra thou on one side.
The pin hole should be in good shape not wowed. or sloppy.
You need to trial fit everything and fall within a go no go spec.
The unit has to centre on the pin.

They say buy a new hardened pin and thats another 25-30 bucks, The Spartan comes with a pin and when you factor that in the Spartan is often the best price.

Ive noticed utube has some install vids these days

Yep, Spartan and Lokka seem to be the budget darlings currently. No experience with either, but I'm going to try a Spartan in my Dana 30 one of these days. Spartan doesn't require shimming, IIRC, while the Lock Right does.

Thanks again, I'll keep all your suggestions in mind.

Lock-Right re-uses the stock shims already in the carrier. It also has the cross-pin included (in some boxes) as does the Spartan. The designs are similar...I chose Lock-Right because I got a steal of a deal (and have had the same Lock-Right in the rear diff for 10 years without anything going wrong).

Ok, it's going to cost me about $600 to get my rear axle set up with a Locker and axle kit. That's doable... My only concern is winter weather performance, thoughts?
