A little background.

I have a 1986 CJ7 that has had a 4.0 and t18a swapped in, mated to the stock Dana 300 .

There is a plate underneath the gearboxes.

There are bolts, the threaded ends, that protrude from this plate.

Now, pre-engine swap, I never noticed these, so I don't know if that is normal or what. But, they look like a great thing to snag on a rock or something.

Can someone explain to a dummy (me) what I am seeing there?

Thanks in advance.

On my CJ w/T-18 , the two bolts closest to each other are for the Transmission mount, which on mine they are reversed and only the bolt heads appear. The other is for the torque mount and on mine the extra threads are sawed off.

So would mine be easy to reverse, like yours? I was surprised to see the thread. Assumed the head would be less dangerous.

Also, this means this is not simply a skid plate, correct?

Thanks again! Brit

I would think the easiest solution would be to saw off the excess threads with a hack saw and you will be fine. If you have any issues with damage scraping the rocks, you can easily replace them before the nuts are shaved off. Hopefully, the 4.0 engine installation went well and there is no problems stemming from it. And yes it is a bit more than just a skid plate and there is an aftermarket version available.

The guy who did the swap thought he knew how to do it. He didn't. I have had a long struggle with various people to get it running properly. Now, finally, it is running great. (knocking on wood)

Thank you so much for the feedback!
