I have recently noticed my brakes seem to be on while driving from time to time. When I let off the gas to slow down the brakes seem to be already on. I have also noticed the metering pin on the combination valve does not stick out as much as it used to, so I'm thinking thats what it is and letting the brake fluid have a slow return. I have removed that metering pin and it does not seem to have any crud on it indicating a clean system. I really don't think that the brake lines have collapsed, since they are not that old or the calipers sticking since it slows down in a straight line, but they are the oem brakes if you can believe that. Any thoughts?

I just replaced a caliper that was hangin up. It was free and worked when I applied the brake.

The rotor was almost smoking.

$17 bucks later with a rebuilt it's fine.

A sticking caliper is a possibility, but it tracks straight ahead and not off to a side like a sticking caliper would do, unless both calipers are. It might be a drag from the rear brakes since it does not nose dive. I will be inspecting those, thanks.

Update-well I did replace the combination valve, It was probably one form Crown or Omix-ada, I purchased it from 4WPW. I guess that was my only option, those things seem to be vehicle specific. Driving it feels quite good with great brake response and no problem like before. Disassembling the metering valve and proportioning valve, I did see o-rings and springs that had seen better days, after all it was a 26 year old unit that I sure was tired. Getting a stock braked CJ with 35s to stop is no easy chore.

I just replaced my MC today but didn't have the Combo metering tool to install prior to bleeding. How important is it to use that tool when bleeding the system. PS. I bench bled the the new MC and got few bubbles when bleeding.

I've got a jeep friend that says, "Never mess with that valve." Every time he does the valve ends up leaking.

Do a pressure bleed.
