carb leaking

Hello everyone and thank u for your help and advise .i have a 1979 cj5 304 engine and my carburator is gone (leak)i need to replace it but i need to know first your opinion b4 i get one should i get t motorcraft 2100 stock or an edelb for better perfomance.

What carb is on it now? my 76 with the AMC 304 had a 2100 and i was told it was a stock set up? I hear the edelbrock carbs are pretty much bolt up and go. Just make sure you dont get to high of a CFM for it. Why cant you rebuild the stock carb?

I have the original carb 2100, i dont know anyone who can rebuild it for me or how much. what cfm stands for ?

CFM stands for cubic feet per minute. The amount of air your engine needs to run at wide open. For some thing like a AMC 304 that's stock 450 cfm is normally a good number. A lot of people will throw a 750 double pumper and a 4barell intake thinking that it will make it run Better. Unfortunately it doesn't.

Honstely rebuilding a 2100 is a pretty basic chore. If you have a jeep you really should be able to rebuild one. If it just leaks but runs good I would take it apart with out messing with the metering or idle screws and just change the gaskets. A screw driver and small socket set is all you need. Rebuild kits run 20-30 dollars depending on where you buy them at. If you rebuild it and it doesn't leak then you just saved at least a hundo.. If it leaks then you have a little bit more knowledge and are only out a extra 20.
