- 1980 CJ 5, 4.2 engine, D30,AMC 20, T176, Dana 300, MC 2100 carburetor.
I changed out my Carter BBD to a Motorcraft 2100, it was an easy swap and my Jeep runs great. [AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engine] The MC 2150 can also be used, as can the Weber. No experience with the Weber but have heard good things about it. There are two variations of the Weber the 32/36 and the 38. Some say the 38 works better.
Again.......no experience with the Weber so more research on your part would be useful.

I went from the Carter carb to a Weber. Big improvement but still flooded out on steep inclines. Then went with the motorcraft and won't go back to either one. It works great. Also cheap and easy to rebuild.

It has the original I6, 5 speed manual tranny and I know nothing about transfer case and diffs..
If someone is reading this please send me a message about how to figure out these things and I will get it straight
I switched out my carb for tbi fuel injection and couldn't be happier. No leg workout getting it started, key in and it fires up immediately every time.
Got mine from performance fuel injection (eBay guy) for around 900 bucks

I'll second the TBI if the money for one isn't an issue. I'm in CA and needed one that is CARB legal for the smog people. If smog isn't an issue Holly makes an EFI for the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l also. I have read good things about it, but no personal experience.
