Does anyone know if the AMC20 pumpkin is cast steel or cast iron? I am wanting to get the axle tubes welded up...

thanks.

It’s Steel, I’m rebuilding my AMC20 right now. My cover was pitted beyond repair so I bought a cast aluminum cover with fins.

The housing is iron.
The cover is steel stamping.
Be sure it's 'skip' welded.

I am referring to the differential, not the cover...maybe you are too, but sounded like maybe not...

Thanks. I'm doing some research on this. Looks like there are some precautions to take like pre-heating and using a nickel or ss rod, etc...

It's only recommended to do four 1 inch welds around each tube to prevent cracking between the dissimilar metals.
