I've been out of the 4x4 Jeep since the 1990s
I had a CJ6 that I enjoyed alot but had to sale due to money issues.
So I started looking and found a nice looking CJ5 that was a project Jeep. The guy that had it said he had it 8 years and had it running a couple of times but could only get it to run by spraying carb cleaner down the carb while I was there. Once I got it towed home and charged the battery I was able to rig up a gas can to the carb and start and run the engine. I then move the gas can to the feed the fuel pump and the engine started and ran. After that I replace all the fuel lines from the frame to the carburetor and put 4 gallons of fuel in the tank and restarted the engine. The engine would run for a little while then act like it was running out of gas and die.
I have a couple of questions o hope you guy can help me with.
How difficult is it to replace the fuel line from the tank to the engine compartment? The hard line seems small 5/16". Is there an upgrade I should do while replacing the fuel line? Also is there a return line? I don't see one.
Thanks

Without all the gph, btu, thermal efficiency blah blah blah. 5/16 line flow at 6ish psi would be 35-38 gph. (Depending on fittings and bends).

Never mind

Gas 5.92 lb/gal
19,000 btu per lb
112,480 btu per gal

1hp =2545 btu per hr.

So

35gph x 5.92lb = 207,200 pounds per hr.
207,200pph x 19,000 btu per lb. = 3,936,800 btu’s/per hr.
3,936,800 btu/hr / 2545 = 1546 h.p.
-1/3 in heat loss from exhaust, -1/3 in heat loss in oil and water leaves 515.6 hp

5/16 will support 515 hp sustained. Unless my math is wrong.

:wtf: I would be checking the rubber lines coming out of the tank and maybe blow out the hard line. And yes there is a return line it goes down the left frame rail.

yeah i guess i could have said 5/16 is plenty big enough. check for restriction somewhere in the lines. Sorry...fuel math excites me.

sorry i got lost trying to post a picture.
I will start at the tank and work my way forward cleaningtubing and replacing the rubber fuel line.
Thanks for your help.
