. I'd fill it up with MMO, Drop the Transfer Case in neutral, fire the CJ up and run it in gear for a few minutes, no load, just a good slosh around. Let it sit for a day, then run it again and drain. The very same thing can be done more inexpensively with turpentine. With no load on the gears nothing will be hurt, especially with turpentine. Those light oils will find a way into the small spaces. I would do the same until the fluids came out clean. If you choose MMO, you would not need it after the initial application, turpentine will flush just fine. ...... You very likely have gear surface damage from the water in the oil. Oddly enough you won't have damage under the oil level, the damage will be ABOVE the oil level where oxygen can get at the water.
but But Lumpy - Come here and let me speak quietly, "listen, Turpentine isn't red, it doesn't come in a really cool old fashioned red can and most importantly Turpentine smells like Turpentine it doesn't have that wonderful minty MMO smell." Everybody that's anybody knows that Ancient Alien Theorists say, "MMO has "other worldly" qualities."
