CJ7 LED Headlight Conversion

Can anyone offer insight on a LED headlight conversion in a CJ7 ? Lots of supposed plug-in LED headlights on Amazon, but I notice Crown Automotive and Quadratec include a Canbus module??? Obviously, I don't need it to communicate with a computer, but does it control LED headlight flickering? Or is that even an issue?

I have full LED lights (head, tail, courtesy, dash, map, turn, markers, etc) inside and out on my '84 CJ. Love them. Brighter, less current draw, and just a cool project. For the headlights, I used True Mods H6024 units. Less than $90 on Amazon. They have a built-in CANBus, standard H4 style plug, optional turn signal rings, and mostly fit right in. I say "mostly" because while they fit the opening and the existing stock trim rings, you do have to trim the rear housing "bucket" due to the heat sink on the rear of the headlights. No biggie. I used a pair of tin snips and it took all of about 5 minutes. No affect on the adjusters/springs where they attach to the housings at all. Mine also do not communicate with any body control computer. I have no flicker or other issues at all. They work great.

You don't need a canbus module. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Crown Automotive, its almost all .

There are tons and tons of options for LED headlights, it really depends on how much money you want to spend. I purchased H4 conversion glass and put an H4 LED bulb in mine. I also added relays in to the headlight circuit. This is a few years ago when I went full LED inside and out with my CJ.

The other option is to go with a 7" replacement LED headlight, top of the line would probably be Truck-Lite, they're $200 or a so a piece, and you can go down from there. I've seen the Quadratec brand name ones, but have no experience with them.

Thanks for the input everyone. Ended up going with Uni-Shine projector headlights. $77 off Amazon. Built in canbus module. AMAZING improvement from old ones. Plus, a very noticeable reduction in amperage draw; prior, running headlights, wipers & defroster blowing full was a strain om my regular OEM alternator. Now it's no longer an issue.

Installation straightforward with only a minor glitch; The headlight bucket assembly is a 2-piece with the shell mounting to the headlight and the housing mounted to the grill. I removed the headlight shell to trim, as required by most headlight conversions I read about. I laid it flat then braced a 4-1/4" angle grinder at the right height and rotated the shell against it to get a clean straight cut. All went great and everything fitted back nicely. But headlight adjustment was Limited ; They're adjusted perfect, but I suspect the back cooling fins are pressed against the inner rear housing. No problem, it'll take me less than an hour to pull it apart and trim the rear housing. Just need to make the time.

For anyone who hasn't upgraded or is thinking about it. DO IT! You'll be glad you did.

I can't speak for all LED lights I know with mine you don't really see the center so it looks somewhat normal just tinted

O you mean the Halo style lights like these. I'm not a big fan either but to each there own. I installed a set on a JK for a customer that were blue tooth and could be controlled by phone. And the whole time I'm like why?

same here, why I just went with Halogen lights, plenty bright

I’m not an electrical guy at all,,,,,,there use to be pre made relays for the headlights like Elwood did on his Jeep. Is that still available anymore. Something pretty close to plug and play. My wiring is still in good shape so I don’t want to smoke the system. My searching abilities are somewhat lame. Thanks
