CJ7 on a tow dolly?

I have an 86 CJ7 with Dana 300 Transfer Case that I want to tow behind my motor home. Also have a 2012 Honda civic that cannot be flat towed, so I need to go with a tow dolly. Anyone have experience with CJ7 on a tow dolly for long trips? Recommended set up, speed limits, required stops to lube the transfer case? Thanks.

The owners manual states that the front hubs need to be locked, Transfer Case in neutral, Transmission in gear, and the engine has to be started every 200 miles. Or, you can put it on a trailer or pull the rear driveshaft to flat tow. Putting the rear wheels on a tow dolly is something I have not heard of, but I guess could be done. There have been a few attempts at adding locking rear hubs and they do exist, like Herm, the Overdrive guy, but I am not sure how it worked out and Warn tried making a kit, sold a few but got rid of that. Good luck with coming up with a usable method.

The Dana 300 should not be towed farther than 200 miles. It does not pickup oil from the rear or front drive shafts. If you "clock" your transfer there will not be an issue.
So you need to either drive the Jeep a little every 200 miles, or pull the rear drive line.

I have flat towed a lot.

I do the following;

Transmission in gear
Key in wheel unlock (but not on)
Tranfercase in neutral
I don't lock in my hubs

With a tow dolly, I just back the cj onto the dolly. You might invest in some magnetic lights for towing, but you have to remove the shaft.

I think I would flat tow before I used a dolly. Flat towing is squirrelly enough, pulling the CJ backwards does not seem like a good idea. and I can see no advantage to a dolly.

and if you plan to tow long distances pull the rear drive shaft it's no big deal. I flat tow mine all the time.
