CJ8 question

CJ8 question
For those looking for a longer stock wheelbase with a good departure angle the CJ6 would get it done. Just saying.

Very true, but the CJ6 's are getting to be a rare vehicle. I don't want to beat on something like that. That's just me. I can always bobb the CJ8 if it becomes a problem, but I don't think I'm going to get that serious.

Dont you dare. Buy one thats bobbed already then. There arent many Cj-8s left either. :(

Dont you dare.

Thank you for caring. Sounds like you won't mind if I pester you (excuse me, pick your brain) when I start replacing the rear corners on the body since they're smashed in. :D

Since many jeeps are damaged in the rear corners by trailers and such corners are relatively easily available. No bobbing necessary. Bob a CJ8 and you have a CJ7 , there are lots of those available. Yes, I know not 100% CJ7 but close enough.

OK, I got it a few hours ago. It's an '82 and it came from the eastern shore in Maryland. I got it for $6500 with two extra sets of hard doors (including one pairs that has opening vent windows), one extra hard top with the holes for the 3 point shoulder belts (the orig top one has only seat belts), one extra set of soft doors, and extra steering column, an extra set of F150 shock towers, and some recovery equipment and other odds and ends. I just graduated yesterday so it's a graduation present to myself. I figured on learning to do some body work, and basic paint on it. I've done welding before just not on an auto body, and some painting. The AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engine has been replaced and has between 5 and 10k on it. The T-5 Transmission hits a few gears going into third. The frame is great with the vast majority of what appears to be the original frame paint is still on it. The odometer has 85k but the title has it as inaccurate. I think I did OK, but time will tell.

From the pics of the outside you did very good. If the floors, B pillars and underside is equally as good you did excellent.

If all looks as nice up close ........ SCORE, very nice. Only one corner actually needed, the other looks fixable. Nice!

I always wonder why this is so common on a jeep. Where the rear bumpers are the strength focal point on a pick up or SUV more often than not it's the front bumper that gets all the attention on a jeep. Your scrambler is very nicely set up in the front and bare at the rear.

There’s just some light surface rust underneath the body, “B” pillars look good along with the floor. It started out in Nebraska, then on to Utah, and the last 6 years in a barn in Maryland. The PO’s uncle backed into it with a backhoe. Looks like I’m running into my first hard to get part. The washers/gaskets that go through the hard top to do the three point seat belt conversion. That one looks like I’m going to have to get imaginative, but doesn't look too bad.

Wow thats a good looking Scrambler. Shame about the body damage.

That's a great find, the corners are nothing compared to rust manage.
