and I want to get all my ducks in a row before I make a decision. And then I want to be able to get my self set up step by step so I can acquire and prepare everything before doing the swap so my girl is out of service for as little as possible.

So, I will get to it. I have come in to a deal where I can get my hands on a Mercedes-Benz OM617 for pretty much a steal. While I can fix things on my CJ and what not I am NOT familiar with what engines will fit to what transmissions etc. Pretty much what I am asking is 1. What would I have to replace to make this swap work. 2. What would I be able to use that is already on her.

I really want to do this, but it has me anxious. I don't want to get in over my head mechanically or financially.

I would think this would require some machine work. How much Mercedes are you putting in-engine, Transmission , & Transfer Case ? Also, if this is going to be driven on the street, It has to be smog legal, so a trip to the smog referee has to happen. Might want to start with the proposed engine, like was installed in a Ca. smog legal vehicle? and will its previous emission amount be o.k. in your CJ?

I am not all that concerned with the smog as the Jeep is Ohio reg even though we are in Ca (military) and we do not need a smog for Oh.

All I will be getting is the engine. This is why I am asking. I need to know what parts of my drivetrain if any can work with this engine.

There is quite a bit of info out on the net pertaining to the swap, so push a few buttons and enjoy!

Go to this site and check it out. They are one of the few that build adapter kits for this motor. I looked into this swap but after driving a car with this motor decided to go another route.
