Should a 1976 CJ7 have a coolant overflow container? If not, what do I do with the tube hanging off the top of my radiator?

Not trying to be a wiseguy, but the short answer is yes. I had a similar question and searched "overflow tank" and found a bunch of threads with some good information.

I'm not finding any OEM replacement overflow tanks for the '76. Not sure that year had one. If not, how can I fashion one?

Id jump on Summit or Jegs and just buy a universal one. The one on my 73 was all rotted out and thats what I did.

Anything can be used as an overflow tank. I drove a fork lift in a factory where the overflow tank was an old hand cleaner bottle that snapped on to a soap despenser.

Lots of hot rod guys get creative. I've seen glass Jack Daniels bottles used, or a large metal drink can.

Tap a fitting into the cap and run a hose down into the can. I've also seen guys mount a breather on top in the cap and plumb a fitting into the bottom and use them for diff vent hoses.
