Dana 30 Front - Axle tube spun in housing

I have 1/2" ones. I torque them down a ways, but don't use torque wrench. I twist until i feel it's probably a hair too tight...

I should throw a torque wrench on them just to see. worry about crushing the axle tube if go too tight...

Maybe check factory specs to start with, then go from there, and use that torque wrench. Check them after a Jeep trips. Locktite them for sure.

Torque'm to spec. and ck'm often.

So i fixed it

Pulled axles and carrier out, heated up the housing a bit and pipe wrench / 4' cheater bar / mini sledge'd it and got it twisted back straight. Then 12lb sledged the end and got it pushed back in a ways as well.

Welded her up, and put her back together.

Rubicon July 4th weekend ought to give her a good testing

I went through door opening deep mud the other day in that same water / mud pit at prairie city... Man that was a mess to clean up... lol My skid plate likes to hold mud, and had to remove every brake system part to clean and reset up... Didn't get stuck though...

Something about standing around watching all the "chickens" pass by a mud / water pit by saying "nope wont make it" and knowing you can gets me every time! I'm still young and learning those "chickens" are not chicken... their smarter and wiser...

Took me 2 days and $40.00 in quarters to clean all the mud off this last time...

JR, if you can't spend the night in the Rubicon Springs Campground due to overcrowding, you can stay in an overflow area which does require a water crossing that when I went through was only about 2 feet deep. After that is Cadillac Hill, Observation Point, to Lake Tahoe.

I don't think this will be a "all the way through attempt" trip. We'll be camping probably in Airport flats or around, and Hit the trail early Friday AM try to get in to a further spot than we've been, maybe the springs, then back out. Maybe a few more short day trips in throughout the weekend if everything plays out.

We have too many people and too much gear to try to pack and camp through on this trip. We got to get a guys trip together just bare essentials and Beer, and then we'll do the camp and go.

I know a lot of guys that just run the trail through same day, takes them 6-8 hrs. We have too much fun looking around and taking in the scenery and experience to race through it.

Not to mention, we don't know the trail that good, but I am starting to get to know the first half real well! lol
