Dana 30 parts interchanges

Will gears and lockers from later model jeeps or cherokees work inside my 1980 CJ5 ?

The Cherokee and late model jeeps have high pinion Dana 30 axles. These have High Pinion axles and the gears are reverse cut.
The issue with the carrier or locker is the gear ratio. Anything 3.54 or higher (lower numerically) needs a different carrier than lower gears.

Not to hijack ,but how could one go about identifying what would interchange? For the CJ5 and if I have an 86 CJ7 I know my axles would be wide track so can we disregard the width since the chunk itself us the same? Thanks a ton!

As BusaDave said, There is a low pinion Dana 30 and a high pinion Dana 30 . You can not interchange the two. There are some parts that will interchange, but not the gears. As far as width, The only diference between the narow track and the wide track is the length of the axles.

To go from 3.07 to 4.56 I will need a new carrier?

Yes sir.
But then if you are going from 3.07 gears to 4.56 you can't reuse the locker either.

Busa - Why wouldn't the Locker work in the change?

or are we talking diff Lockers - lunch box vs Full unit?
