Dana44 trac-loc

So I bought some axles with jeep money intending to sell them for a profit and buy more jeep stuff. The front came with a trac-loc my question is should I rebuild it , remove it, or replace it with something else? Ive never had or run one and don't know if they are any good.They are scout 44s I was going to cut them down to jeep size , respline the axles and get rid of the 3:52s the rear is going to get the lock right from another 44 I got in the deal.

I would trash the Trac-loc and replace it with something else. That is probably the weakest Limited slip made. AMC installed them awhile back, I'm not sure if they were used in the early Wranglers. They were pretty much replaced by the much stronger Power-loc, lunch box lockers, and other aftermarket versions. Not sure if I have ever heard of resplining axles, and I can't even imagine what it would cost.

Good info , I Was hoping it would be ok in the front axle where a locker would be a bit more user unfriendly . As for resplining sending them out is around 200.00 a pair plus shipping to moser or patriot, chucking them up on the Bridgeport and maybe ruining them...free.

If money isn't an issue put in something else. But keep in mind that the TrakLoc carrier is different from the std. carrier (I'm 99% sure), so if you go with a lunchbox type make sure it will fit the carrier.
I believe the Trac-Lok's were only used in the later CJ's (70's and on) and some Cherokee's, and the Powr-Lok's were used in the full sized vehicles and earlier CJ / MB's. Both can wear out. I'd go another route.

I think an open front carrier is the easiest way to go. It was apart when I got it so I'll have to set it up again anyway, I'll just locker the rear and hopefully get enough to buy a winch.

I hope you got them really cheap, it's hard to get your money back out of things.
Good luck on resplining them on a Bridgeport unless you have a 90* head for it, and a dividing head to go with it.
Also check that after you cut the axles you are back far enough to respline.

I got them for $200, I would send them out for splineing,when I said chuck them up and ruin hem I ment it! Could just leave them full width and freshen them up and probably end up better off.
