I have a 75 CJ5 , and I'm going to be making a cardboard copy of my dash for my friend to make me one on his plasma cutter. Does anyone know where I can get all the dimensions? and also how they bend the ends on the dash? Cause the one that I will be getting made will be made out of 3/8 steel.

Wow, 3/8 steel for the dash seems like overkill. It doesn't carry a load so you could bring that way down. Your just adding a lot of weight with little gain.

Bending the end on 3/8, good luck with that. They bend the ends because it sheet metal which is all you really need.

If you are set on that heavy stuff measure your existing dash and you will probably need to weld the bent end part.

Haha miss type I meant 1/8......I was wanting to know what they bend it with more or less lol, I'm starting to think this isn't a good idea cause Idk about those little windshield tabs on the dash to. It was just going to be a free dash which I need but there is a couple of little stuff on there that I don't know about.

Now your talking. Sometimes free is the most expensive way to get something.

I would think it is punched and then bent in like a mold with a press but that is a guess.

Sounds about right, ehhh I have to many projects at one time going on with this jeep. It's quite the money eater

Thank you :chug:

My dash is 1/8" Aluminum and there were several problems mounting gages, steering column and those rectangle dash lights. It's twice as thick as stock. .125" vs .060.

Stock is 16 gage. 14 ga. Would be a bump up and less issues putting all the stuff back in.

Don't worry about the ends. Leave the flat and grind a radius on the edges.

Lots of dash measurements on the Internet :D

So are you saying do it out of 1/8 steel or drop down to 16 gage? I tried finding measurements for just the stock 72-75 CJ5 dash w/ radio cut out but didn't see any there.
What about them windshield slot shim looking things.

Those slots are are for adjusting the windshield angle. They have a nut plate behind the dash that slides up and down to pull the windshield back.

14 gage steel will be pretty solid but so would 1/8". Do you really need all that extra weight?
Check this one out 1979 Jeep CJ-5 Buildup: Custom Dash

Lol, nope no use in extra weight I just want something that does not have 15,000 extra holes in it like my dash and not one of them holes does my key ignition fit in.

Wow!!! Out of all them I could use 1 and the one I could use looks almost identical to my dash already haha....I don't know what to do with all the extra holes in myne AHHHHH  the holes where the dumb indicators go in that I can't find the ones they sale at 4wd and quadretec I think are to big. Other the that I guess I don't need a new one ehhh idk. Here are some pics of it....

Thanks :chug:

Before I went aluminum, I had a similar desire to redo the dash. I used contact cement a covered it with naugihide.

Looked pretty good and just covered the holes I didn't want. Even a big dent from a 20 ga. Blast from the PO. :D

Lol, I imagaine that was a hell of a dent, I may give her a try who knows. That dash I have use to have diamond plate on it but I didn't like it so took that off sanded it all down cut a radio insert out and painted it :chug:

There is a black plastic cover that goes around the column that covers it.
