I've had this (wonderful) car for a short time; it's a 1985 Wrangler. I must have inadventantly hit a button - I don't know anything about the programming- & the display at the bottom of the (analog) speedometer says, "digital speedometer". I'm loathe to just mess with it since I'm alone, offgrid, way the heck up a dirt road with no neighbors and I need the car to be fully functional.
What did I do & how do I remove it?

That's not a CJ dash or gauge cluster. You stated it's an '85 Wrangler. The "Wrangler" name wasn't used in '85. It was started in 1987 after the end of the CJ line in '86. So an '85 Jeep technically wouldn't be a "Wrangler". What many people call a "Wrangler" from before 1987 is a CJ, which yours is not from that dash pic. In 1987, Jeep came out with the YJ model up through 1995. But your pic is also not a YJ model either. Here's a YJ dash:

That dash pic you showed is a much newer vehicle.
I'm a space case! A lot going on right now, chasing down the purchaser in June of my former vehicle who hasn't registered it. It's a 2015 ! I'm really sorry.
:welcome:
Can you upload a picture of the speedometer? Your CJ did not originally come with any gauges that would have any reference to anything "digital".
Do you know what brand it is?

Thanks! I'll take photos tomorrow & post them! (I did see a mention of added components when I was searching online for answers). I'm unsure what you mean by "brand", though.

Brand = Manufacturer / Who makes it
Example: The vehicle you are talking about is a "Jeep".

You don't have a stock speedo if it has a button and a display with text on it. Sounds like you have a Dakota Digital or Speedhut aftermarket assembly. I have the Dakota Digital, so I'm more familiar with that one. The programming is done via a 2-way toggle switch that is mounted somewhere external of the gauge assembly. Mine is mounted under the dash next to my OBD port. It is possible I could bump it with my knee if I wasn't aware it was there and what it does. Depending on how you set it up, you get different text messages in the two display areas at the bottom of the assembly. Default is odometer in the left and clock in the right. But those can be changed to a variety of options when the toggle switch is pressed one way or the other. The Speedhut also has a display window more centered that can be adjusted to display various readouts as well.

Really appreciate the detail.

That is definitely not anything stock. Looks like a complete aftermarket cluster including warning lights. Very nice...
When you drive it does the speedometer still work? I'm having a little bit of difficulty matching that replacement cluster.
Please take some pictures of your complete dash including steering column. Don't be stingy with the pics... :)

  • Thanks for the Post!

I agree, what is the VIN? I have seen some people put Wrangler stickers on there CJs though.
That cluster doesn't look like anything Dakota offers for any Jeep.

Don't worry about it! While we specialize in CJs we love all short wheel base Jeeps... :chug:

You can always sell that JK and get a good CJ and be a real part of the crowd here :)
Oh, thanks... BTW, your site was default choice when 2 other (Regular!) Jeep sites repeatedly neglected to send me the validation email; what's up with That? At least you've been welcoming... in a way...;)
