Dipstick Tube angle on a 304

I need a visual on what the dipstick angle looks like on the oilpan side. I believe mine is at the wrong angle. At spec, my oil level should read full but it reads just below add on the stick. Anyone got a pic as to what it should look like in the oilpan?

So you put 5 qts in and it's reading just below the "add" mark?

If you just need a pic with of the tube going into the engine from the outside, I can get one of mine this afternoon. If you need one with the oil pan off, I can't help with that.

Also, it might not hurt to get a measurement of the dipstick length to make sure it's the correct length.

Ok. This tube is one piece then? I remember somewhere a puller is required to pull the tube out?

Lookimg at the pic, it looks like where it comes out it is a downward curve. Mine is curved over far enough it sets just under the crankshaft throw. I either have an incorrect tube and stick or this thing is totally out of whack.

Ok. I'm just going to make this simple. I looked up a new one. For 12 bucks I can get a whole new tube and stick. It also look much different than the one it currently has. Mine looks longer and actually almost like curls up under the crank throw. So I'll just get a new one I knownis the correct one.

I used one of these - fit perfect. Got it painted to match the block. Made an insertion tool. And it drove right in. VERY sturdy.

Well - finally remembered to take a few pics..... sorry for the delay. I just used a piece of steel tube the would fit around the top of the dipstick tube - the top of the tube is a larger dia than the body. Keep the small piece to 3/4” or shorter so it will pass over the bends., and the longer part is about 15” long. Fit the new tube into the block as far as it will go by hand, slide this down to the stop ring, tap with a hammer, and you’re golden.

I got it. Very simple. Appritiate the pics. I was thinking along the same lines. Thanks. I just have to figure out how I'm going to get the old tube out without breaking it off in the block or in the oil pan. That thing was really angled.

I was thinking spot welding a tip of a slide hammer onto the old tube and just tapping it up and out.

A nice trick to take out the tube is to use the clamp bar from a tube flaring set.
Just clamp it on and you have a good place to tap on to pound it out.
