1985 CJ w/ a 258, T-4, and not sure on the T_-Case (just got the jeep)
so it's a barn find for next to nothing. an 85 CJ7 . kinda new to the Jeep world so bear with me. here are some starter pics the day I towed her home and got her in my 1 car garage. more of a restoration than a heavily modified mud/rock crawler.

a few more pics. fresh gas, some new filters, lil oil here n there with a hand crank done first and she fired right up!

the exhaust was MIA so I started sourcing parts to put one back in place. got from the tip up to the muffler so far. waiting on a Cat to come in and I can get it run back up to the manifold. That's it for now. (by the way I like posting pics in almost every post cause it's worth a thousan... I forget the saying, but I like pics)

Welcome. Judging by the straight shifter in your 85 odds are good you have a T-176 or T177 Transmission . Much stronger than the T-4 . The garnet interior is also one of the more rare colors. A nice Cj for a restoration.

Good call on that Transmission , Pete. DirtyGoat, a big issue with an old CJ is deciding just what you want to do with it. looks like you are off to a good start.

Thanks guys. Name's Chris, and as stated this is my first intro into the jeep world(owned a XJ for a few seasons) I'll try to research before I ask already answered questions. lets plan on keeping it stock height, building a family cage that the hard top fits over, and a few gentle mods to improve _______. I find as things age, the closer to stock things are, the more we "value" 'em.

anything you see that I might not have gotten right while documenting please let me know (T-4 vs T-176 /177 for example)

Welcome to the Jeep life Chris, good find, try to take it one project at a time then it won't look like your spending to much to the Wife. The T-176 -177 is rated a stronger medium duty Transmission then the T-4 -T-5 , even so, I have been running my T-5 with no problems. I just go light on the skinny pedal

Hey Chris, Think maybe you should buy a garage door first. :poke: I can't imagine trying to restore a Jeep in a snow covered garage floor. :wtf: Burrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Congrats! Hope it works out.
