Distributor Help

Just bought a CJ5 1975 and thr PO sent with it a new HEI Distributor, He said he hasn't the time to switch it out. My jeep has the points and coil type distributor is it possible to switch it out with the HEI type distributor if so what needs to be done and if not I have a HEI for sale if anyone is interested. Also a neww gas tank from Rock Ridge. I am new to jeeps so any info would be very helpful. thanks for checking out my thread.

Then you can ship the points dist to me, i'm in the market for one.

What engine do you have?
The HEI ignition is self contained and easy to install. You mainly need to get 12 volts to the coil on the top of the distributor. You will also need new plug wires. Check out this link:Installing HEI Distributor Jeep CJ-7 AMC 360 V8
BTW all AMC V8 engines are the same so this link also applies to the AMC 304

Hey Busadave 9 thanks that is a big help. I am not sure what HEI i got the PO already had it bought and I cant tell from the box. I need to look up the company and cross it with the part# I will also post a pic of it tonight to see if someone can tell me what I have. Once again thanks I was about to chicken out of doing this but this seems to make it sound not to bad.
