Hi All,
Bit new to these forums, was directed to start new thread here by a helpful scribe.
I have a question primarily for DJ Jeep owners (the non-powered front axle Postal variety!).
Has anyone done a disc brake upgrade from the stock standard 11 inch drum fronts on a 1975 DJ5D? I intend leaving the rear brakes as are, but have just finished installing the suspended pedals complete with booster, next comes the plumbing for same.

I have been told that either a later model DJ came out with disc brakes (rare as hens teeth here in Australia), or possibly the discs, calipers and spindles etc off a CJ5 or 7 may adapt? I have made a few enquiries here locally, mostly from the wreckers, but there do seem to be some about. This day and age it may just as easy to import an aftermarket kit from the States, at least that way I'd know I would be starting out with brand new gear, not somebody else's reject that can sometimes cost an arm and a leg to recondition.

There is no doubt someone here who would have done the upgrade. I am thinking along the lines that even if I have to source parts from a CJ, they should fit the same upper and lower open knuckle ball joint set up. Steering linkages would be compatible also, I am assuming. Where the front axle shaft goes through the centre of the hub would have to be blanked off somehow, maybe some sort of welsh plug type thing, pressed in? What about the actual bearing carrier, how much from the original drum brake setup could be salvaged?

By the way, those people who helped out with the steering advice, even though I posted to the wrong part of the forum, thanks! Got it sorted out.

Would really appreciate any help from out there.

Cheers, Dave
