Doing Electrical up grades ? Consider these

Many folks are not aware that you can get the GM Weather Pack/Metri Pack connectors quite easy. These connectors make for solid, weatherproof connections. On my YJ many of the connectors are Weather/Metri Pack from the factory. You might find the same on your CJ A GOOD NAPA auto parts may have some of these. Forget Auto Zone/Advance etc.

Adding additional electrical circuits ? Bussmann RTMR is a good way to go. Again, Waytek has them.

I will be retro-fitting my re-wire with weatherpacks when I need to take it apart later. I sure wish I had seen those RTMRs before I build my own little relay pack!
I am using a fuse panel from West Marine for my project, but I am always on the lookout for new stuff to help the electrical system. Thanks for the post!

M.L.CJ5 . If you look at some of the aftermarket replacement wiring harnesses. They use the RTMR as there fuse/distribution block.

So with just a little homework. You could make up your own "painless" harness for a fraction of what Painless sells them for.

Hopefully this helps stuff helps someone out.

OH I'm making my own harness right now...Nothing but the fuse panel is pre-bought. I am incorporating stuff I've dredged up over the years.
My only regret so far is that I didn't track down more colors of wires. But I have detailed notes on every component and what each wire is attached to on the other end.
This is the relay 'panel' I have now. Hi beams, Low beams, and off road light relays, all with self-resetting circuit breakers on the load side for safety. I will be sealing it up in a tupperware container for water-proofing.

Looks good !! Like the angle iron relay holder.

Can I make a suggestion though ? A short length of adhesive shirink wrap over the ends of the terminals will add some waterproofing and help secure the wires to the terminals. In fact, you could cover the exposed female portion of the spade to add an insulating quality to them. Just in case one was to come loose. Even with the Tupperware enclosure

Just a thought.

Good tip! But don't worry, I'm nowhere near done with them. In that shot it is still sitting on the passenger's tool box LOL. Still got a lot of wiring to do yet...

You can print out labels for each relay in say MS word. Make them end for end.

Hi beam.........Low Beam........Fog ..............and so on.

Take the page to Staples or Office Depot etc. They can make you up a plastic laminated card with a sticky back. If you give them dimensions they can size them for you. One long strip or individual labels. That way each relay will be identified as to it`s use.

~Cause if you are like me.......I can`t remember @#%^ the next day much less a year from now..

I snag all my weatherproof connectors from the junk yard.
Hit up gm vehicles well basically all new vehicles for connectors and relays.
My local yard doesn't even charge me plus I snag fuses while I'm at it.
