What's the reason you took it off? To get 12v to the coil at all times. But why?

I bypassed the resistor wire to increase spark to the plugs. I was told that the resistor wire was only to protect the OEM coil and that once I went to an aftermarket e-core coil that supposedly could handle 12V, I didn't need the resistor anymore. I ran like this for several months until this last weekend when the coil failed. Installed my backup coil and she fired right up but I noticed that it was very hot (could only keep my finger on it for 5 secs before it got uncomfortable). After reading that bypassing the resistor wire could also burn out the Duralast module this evening I removed the resistor wire bypass I previously installed which brings me back to about 9.5V on the positive side of the coil instead of the near 14V it was getting before the bypass. Went for a test drive and the coil is now only luke warm and no change in engine performance. Lesson learned.

If and when I go to an MSD ignition module I will bypass the resistor for good.
