I swapped a 360 V8 into my 83 CJ. Started it up for the first time and ran good, then seemed like something was lugging it down so I shut it off, or tried to. With the key off, it wouldn't shut the engine off. Disconnected the battery and it still didn't shut off but ran great like the load was taker off. Pulled the coil wire to stop it. Checked for 12 V at the coil + terminal and it went on/off with the ignition switch. Clearly I have something not wired right. The engine uses a stock 77 CJ V8 ignition box and has the same (83") alternator as what was on the I6. Where should I look?

Thanks

NEVER MIND, I FOUND MY PROBLEM. I connected the 6 CYL tach wire to the + on the coil and apparently it didn't like it. Runs good now.

The alternator is back feeding to the ignition. Your problem is in the way the alt. is wired.
