Engine Engine locked up
Hi all,
I recently inherited a flat fender jeep with an engine that will not spin. My father-in-law recently had a severe stroke and has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He's no-verbal at this point, but really perks up when I talk to him about his jeep projects, so I think it is worthwhile to do some work when I can and keep him updated on the progress. His goal this summer was to get his 2 grandsons, my boys, in his jeep that he's had for 40 years but has been parked for 20. I'm just continuing his mission.
First off, what engine is this? How do I find out which engine/manufacturer this is?
Over the years when I told him to get the thing running, he always said that it only needed a battery and it should run, but last year he discovered that the engine wouldn't spin. He has a 3ft breaker bar on the crank pulley, and nothing is moving. Again, he drove it into the garage 20 years ago and parked it.
On inspection yesterday, he had the spark plugs out and a can of some lube on the fender. It didn't seem like the right kind of thing to break it loose. I dumped all of the Mystery Oil I could find in the garage, but I wish I had put more in. I will be back there next weekend.
Am I going to hurt anything if I start trying to break it loose next weekend after a week of soaking? Should I dump more in and wait another week? Should I drop the oil pan and inspect/lube anything before trying to spin it? I don't want to overthink this process, but I don't want to miss anything obvious.
I would be awesome to get this thing puttering around the yard in the next few months, and then I can start looking at finishing his CJ8 project!
