Exhaust for Straight 6 With Headers

I have a 1982 CJ7 Renegade . She has the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l straight 6 with headers then into two glass packs.

I am looking to go not so loud, but I want to still be able to hear the exhaust. Something the is a little lower sounding, but most of all I want what would be the best for my jeep.

Asking for exhaust advice is not much different than asking for color or motor oil advice, everybody has an opinion. Mine is that a good exhaust man can tell you what you want if he hears what you have and listens to what you say you want.

The only sound advice I can give you (pardon the pun) is to have your exhaust dump out behind the rear wheel. Have him come out and bend it 45 degrees down and 45 degrees out to the side behind the rear wheel. The draft created by the tire will pull the exhaust in and swirl it round with fresh air and keep it from drafting back up by where you are sitting. Keeps eyes dry and clothes from smelling like the inside of your muffler.

And then put a sticker on the side of your Jeep advertising what he installed.

Just had a whole new system put on my 8, 2 1/2" pipe with a Magnaflow cat and muffler, not loud at all , you can hear the guy next to you with no trouble.
