'79 CJ5, 258 I6, T150 w/Dana20, Dana30 front and AMC20 rear. My first Jeep! I'm looking forward to doing some minor upgrades and restoration while enjoying the ride.
Somewhere back in time a PO took off the stock manifold and installed a header. I was changing my belts today (wait, belts? what does that have to do with a header, you ask...) and I found that part of my power steering pump bracket had been cut off because the number 1 header pipe was in the way. That number 1 tube is completely blocking the pump from pivoting so the only way I can get a new belt on there is to unbolt the pump and then change the belt and bolt it back up under the pressure of the belt.

So, as with all parts Jeep this current header will need replacing soon and I would love to go back to a stock manifold but thought it best to see what you guys have run across in your time.

Manifold or another header, what do you think? Stock AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and it's going to stay stock, even when I rebuild it next it will be stock. Driver, not a wheeler.

Headers cause a lot of under-hood heat.
Go back to OEM........

I bought a used AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l to rebuild and it came with a crusty old junky header. Tossed it an found a really good OEM manifold.

Did you put on the manifold that attaches under the carburetor to heat it, or a newer model manifold that does not go under the carb?

The carb is on top of the intake manifold and it has a heater. The exhaust runs under that. Is that what you ment ?

Yes, the manifolds from the 80's don't run under the carb so i wondered which one you used.
