Fan Hitting Radiator when accelerating

Fan Hitting Radiator when accelerating
To help you. WE need more info about your Jeep. ;)
What do you call overheating? Is it boiling over?:confused:
Don't trust OEM gauges.
A bad dash GND will give you a false high engine temp and lower fuel readings w/OEM gauges.

Low pro fan. My big aluminum radiator wouldn't fit either.

Better yet! Go electric fans and get rid of the knuckle buster!

Electric fans are power suckers. :D
I'm still run'n the OEM fan setup with a 3 row radiator w/shroud.
My electric fan is a secondary unit, more for reducing vapor lock than cooling the engine.

I Agree on the electric fan thing. Still better than having a hole in the radiator. Low pro fan worked for me.

Did you upgrade your altenator, to compensate for the additional power drain of the electric fans?

?? Low pro fans don't need additional power. But, yes I do have 2 batteries and a 130 Amp 3G alt. But that's for OBA, winch and lights.

Do you have a link for these. I tried a GOOGLE deal, and all I got was ceiling fans.
What type of OBA are you using?
I have a converted A/C comp for mine.

Haha, no problem. I'll look it when I get home. It was a flex-a- lite fan. I don't think it was advertising as low-profile, it was about 1/4" thinner but wider blades.

It's been a while since I fooled around with my OBA. Its a York compressor that pumped to a smaller air tank mounted behind the rear seat.

I pulled it out not to long ago to fit a little generator back there. I don't wheel like I did when I had the bronco. Now my jeep is purely a hunting rig.

I have seen a few flex-lite fans fail.
The blades crack, and fly off. The last one I saw a couple of years ago went through the Jeeps hood.
Just an FYI..........

I've been through the cooling system top to bottom (hence the new radiator) and replaced most of it (PO had wrong water pump), so I know the gauge is good. When the gauge gets to 'H' I can begin to smell the coolant boiling out, and I'll have to pull over.

And so that's what happened on this drive. What's odd to me is after installing this new radiator, the engine has been operating real cool. Even at highway speeds, it's been great, and I can't imagine my adjustment to the fan shroud is causing the issue.

And the engine overheating was preceded by two sounds, both present at WOT in top gear, but not before that:
1. A rattling sound similar to when you put a manual Transmission in gear but don't give it enough gas
2. A loud repetitive thunking

I did replace the fluid in my TF999 Transmission , but I can't understand how that could be the cause. And I am showing low oil pressure, but I think the sender unit is broken

Whose t'stat are you using? What temp setting.
I have also seen WP impellers come loose on the shaft.
Are you using a fan-clutch?
The thunk'n you hear-Have you checked your u-joints, slip splines and engine/tranny mounts?
Like I said-need details..........;)

I know that you stated that the PO had the wrong water pump installed, and that you changed it, but are you sure that you have the correct water pump. There are pumps available with reverse rotation which would be used with a serpentine drive system. They look the same, but are designed to turn in opposite directions. If you have the incorrect pump, you would be drawing the hottest coolant from the radiator instead of the coolest. Just my 2¢.

this creates negative pressure in the system and your top radiator hose well actually collapse and pulse. Its the oddest thing.

I just went through this a couple months ago when I did my radiator.

This was my first thought also. What was wrong with the other one?
