I have the 66 running and driving. But it doesn't seem to be cooling very good. Did these have a fan shroud?
My water temp gage said it's getting to 210. I have a 160 thermostat in it.
It never lost any coolant and didn't seem over heated.
I flushed the cooling system and put fresh coolant in it. It still reads the same on the gage. I guess the gage could be wrong but if it should have a shroud I guess I need one.

You might consider a professional pressure flush and have the gauge checked. A shroud really doesn't help that much unless doing slow stuff.

I am checking for a local radiator shop. Since it has sat for 6 years that I know of, I thought I would have it cleaned and pressure checked.

You got that right! When I first got it it had a Chevy 350 with a Chevy service solid lifter cam 20/20 (gap) that car went like a raped ape. Some time later I was up Portland way and a guy shouted to me at a light and said "You wanna SS hood for that?" I followed him to his home and he was parting out his old lady's '66 SS 'cause she left him for another guy. Got the hood and emblems for $75 clams.
It was burgundy in color and was a ticket getting machine, that's for sure.

I know what you mean. I was clocked at 141 by a state trooper in Lousianna (where I was raised). I would have spent time in the cross bar motel if he wasn't a hunting buddy.
My 67 Chevell started life as a 6 cyl. car but I put a 325 hp 327 from a friends moms wrecked SS impala.
It was fun and fast, sometimes I wonder how I survived all the good times.
